Hi internet friends. And hi real friends. Some of you might be both and in that case: – double hi!

Well Camp Fridgy is has been busier than Charlie Sheen’s mentor. Professionally, things have been going nicely. The kind folk at OneHD have decided to keep me for another year which is great news because I love sport, love talking about sport and even though I’m reading scripts – I’m pretty much living my life-long dream. I guess commentating sport would be a REAL dream come true but the problem is no-one would care about what I have to say. That’s fair enough, for now I’ll just read the words on the pages and hope sooner or later someone offers me Bruce McAveney’s job.

The big news is I no longer have a girlfriend! She is now my fiancée! I got engaged to my beautiful lady Veronica on the 23rd March 2011. And yes I did the traditional ‘get down on one knee’, ‘go out to dinner’, ‘organise for someone to creepily sit in the bushes and take photo’s’ etc. My brother kindly offered to take photos of the big moment and here is one of the pics straight after she said “YES!”

So it’s been an exciting week! I have a couple of gigs coming up over the next couple of months. Not doing as much comedy these days but certainly not about to give it up altogether so I’ll still be MC-ing plenty of comedy clubs in Sydney every couple of weeks. Apart from that, I need to go – I have a wedding to plan, and I’m also lazy and sick of typing.

Thanks for stopping by and please do so again soon fridgy.com-ers!
Done.

Even though it’s my first post of the year, I didn’t feel right about saying Happy New Year seeing we are now 32 days in to it!

Well I hope you’re all well. I’ve had a very fun and lazy start to the year. I haven’t been working too much – and I’ve certainly been lazy on the gigging front. The last gig I did was the Paddington Fringe just before New Year’s Eve with Jacques Barrett and Ray Badran and it was a corker! A great crowd who are always in a great mood that time of year. It’s been a while so I don’t remember much from the gig. All I remember was telling a guy who worked in a hostel that he probably now has chlamydia. He was English and we had just been humiliated in the Ashes. I think it was warranted. The crowd seemed to as well.

Since then the story of my life has been tennis. Watching it, playing it and now typing about it. I went to the Australian Open in Melbourne for the first time and yes, finally saw my man-crush Roger Federer. And no I didn’t cry when I saw him. I learnt first-hand from him how silly it is to cry all the time. Seeing all those great players really made me realise how horrible a tennis player I am.

Obviously the big story has been the disastrous floods in Queensland and parts of NSW and Victoria. A pretty tragic time for plenty of Aussies! There is a big charity gig for the flood victims on Wednesday the 2nd February at the Coogee Bay Hotel with some of the best comics in the country playing like Arj Barker, Chris Wainhouse, Steve Philp and Simon Kennedy (Steve and Simon are good mates of mine). I’m not performing at it but certainly would encourage everyone to go along!

So that’s about it for now. Sorry this is such a boring, non-witty post. (Although I’m pretty sure you’re just thinking it blends in with all the other prior posts right!?)

I have a gig in Hurstville in a few weeks. Last time I did it there was about 8 people there and it was pretty rough so fingers crossed for a better gig this time!

Done.

For starters, a huge welcome to the festive season for 2010!

As the year starts to wind down, I thought I would reflect on some of the interesting / incredible things that have happened to me and to all of us throughout the year:

My first TV stand-up spot – easily one of the most nerve-wrecking and exciting things I’ve ever done. My live spot on One’s ‘Thursday Night Live’ went well. You can see the video to your right.

We got a new Prime Minister – ok maybe not incredible but still worth a mention. If I was responsible for writing newspaper headlines I would have gone with “It’s A Girl!” or “Tony Ab-not!” (You can probably see why I don’t get paid to write newspaper headlines.)

My brother got married – I went all the way to the United States for his wedding and his bucks party which was in Vegas. I ate so much junk food and I can see why the fast-food chain is called “In And Out Burger”. Mainly because that accurately describes the food’s journey through the body. It’s like a kebab shop calling themselves “I Dare You To Fart In The Morning…”

The Sydney Roosters lost the NRL grand final after an incredible season – after collecting the wooden spoon last season, my team made it all the way to the grand-final only to fall at the final hurdle and lose to the Dragons. Also, Nate Myles did all his poo’s in toilets this year. A great effort by both the Roosters and Nate.

I became an advertorial presenter on Channel 9’s Kerri-Anne Kennerley Show – it’s been quite a few months now and what a great experience it has been. Who would have thought wearing a Snuggie or talking about funeral insurance on national television could be so much fun. From this I have learnt that I have lots of wrinkles in my forehead when I ask questions. I have also found that getting make-up touch-ups on set feel nice. So much in fact, that I am sometimes rub make-up off my face just so the lady can come and dab me with one of those soft brushes. Be right back, I’m just going to check if I still have testicles…

I still have testicles.

Some guy with a weird name won X-Factor – Matt Newton was going to host it but instead got in to more trouble for domestic abuse. Channel 7 were going to call the show “Beat Up Your Ex – Factor” (OHHHH ZING!!!!) but instead decided to pull the plug on the guy.

Ok so that’s about all I can be bothered typing. I might post on here around Chrissy but if I get too busy (and by “busy” I mean “fat and lazy”) over the holiday period then I won’t. So I should say “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” to all the www.fridgy.com – ers out there. Thanks for stopping by throughout the year and here’s to an even bigger and better 2011!

Done.

Geeze I’m getting lazy in my old age. I haven’t updated this blog in a few weeks 1) because of laziness and 2) I haven’t got much to write about because I haven’t been doing many gigs because yes, I’m lazy. (Even writing that last long and complicated sentence took me about 5 minutes)

I had an amazing gig at the Paddington Fringe Bar a couple of weeks ago. Such an amazing venue that place! There was a drunk girl from Lithuania in the crowd who decided to start yelling out early in the night. Dumb. It turned out she was on a first date with this poor guy and after I spent about 5 minutes accusing her of “being a mail order bride” and saying things like “well mate if she talks this much in bed you’re in for a long night… and a very annoying one” and “buddy if you don’t stick something in her mouth to shut her up, I will!” Crowd was loving it.

The other comics then preceded to tear the girls life apart as well. What a brilliant evening. She was a good sport in the end though and I gave her a couple of free drink vouchers. See, I’m not a TOTAL arsehole.

Hmmmm, what else has been happening… Oh I joined the gym. I’m not massive yet but just give me another 4 or 5 years and I will be. I had forgotten how heavy those weights can be!! I hate walking in to the gym and seeing all the massive lumps of muscle staring at me smirking and thinking “this guy is gonna hurt himself”. At least I don’t look like a peanut in a singlet. Well, not yet anyways.

So that’s it for now. I have a couple more gigs coming up but due to the fact I’ve been so busy with voice-work, presenting etc. comedy has really taken a bit of a back seat for me lately. I think my New Year’s resolution will be to do more gigs. And to be nicer to Lithuanian tourists who come to watch me do stand-up.

Thanks for stopping by! Please do so again soon. You know you want to.
Done.

Hi there friends,

Well I’m back in Sydney now after a trip to the USA. I went over there for my older brother’s wedding for about 10 days. Now I regularly get on my website and blog about comedy gigs and while I’m fortunate enough that almost all of my gigs have been either great, good or decent, there have a been a handful of forgettable ones.

I particularly remember speaking about a gig I had in Manly at the Boatshed over a year ago where all my friends came and I died on stage. I remember it so clearly – there was more silence than at a party with all of Matt Newton’s friends. It was horrible. I also had a similar gig at Liverpool at the Macquarie Hotel about a year ago. About 5 or 6 people in the crowd sniggered a couple of times and only applauded when I left the stage. Similar story in Hurstville a few weeks ago, people were more interested in the TAB and when their schnitzel was ready than hearing me speak. Fortunately these nights are few and far between, however out of all of these tough moments I had a pretty tough one the other night…

I was my brother’s Best Man and not only organised the bucks party in Las Vegas the week earlier, but of course therefore had to do a speech. The first 2 or so minutes were going great. I opened with “how beautiful do the bridesmaids look tonight!? (applause) I haven’t seen women this amazing since the Pleasure Pit in Vegas!” (laughter). All was going well while I told stories about my brother growing up and people were laughing plenty. However then I did the regulatory “nice” stuff about my brother and as soon as I mentioned how important it was to have him around when my parents got divorced (coupled with the fact that I looked at my parents in the crowd at this moment) – I broke down in tears. It started out as my voice wavering and a bit of a sniffle, but sure enough soon I was crying. You know how things are always worse when people clap and my bro got up and hugged me. I just needed 30 seconds to calm down but I couldn’t, I still had to keep saying nice things about my brother and couldn’t get it together. Anyways, everyone said they LOVED the speech and many people were also in tears, but I didn’t exactly feel like a big, brave man afterwards. ‘Dying’ on stage is bad, don’t get me wrong – but crying on stage isn’t all that much more pleasant.

Anyways, all in all it was a great wedding and while it was sad to leave, it’s nice to be home.

A couple of gigs coming up and I’m in a new Carlton Draught ad (I’ll post the link when I find it), so please stay tuned and pop by regularly.

Thanks so stopping by friends. Please don’t laugh at me for crying. You know I’m a Roger Federer fan – if only I could play tennis as well as I can impersonate his trophy ceremony’s.

Done.

Hey friends,

What’s been happening? How’s this weather? How cool is Masterchef? Who are you gonna vote for in the election?

Good, now that I’ve broken the ice we can get down to business. Camp Fridgy has been plugging along nicely. Had a few gigs lately which have been fun. The Fringe Bar in Paddington a couple of weeks back was fantastic. Definitely my favourite room in Sydney and Gary Eck (headliner) was great. I played the Manly Boatshed last Monday which was also terrific. A South African comic came to the gig and asked to do 5 minutes which turned out to be great. Sure I wanted to make vuvuzela sounds the whole time but I refrained.

Last night I performed at the Sugarmill in Kings Cross. Usually it’s a great room and there was a nice chunky crowd in there so it looked all set for a cracking night of comedy. Was a bit tougher than I and Danny McGinlay (1st feature) would have liked. Danny did well though and I thought he was a very solid act. By the time we reached the second bracket the crowd were a lot looser (and probably drunker) and they were great. George Smilovic was the headliner and all in all it was a good night.

So this Thursday I’m off to the USA for my brothers wedding. The bucks party is in Vegas so I’ll be looking to teach my liver a lesson. I’m pretty confident that if we get loose enough and get involved in enough debauchery that Hollywood will want to buy our story for “The Hangover 2″. That’s the plan anyways. Either way, as long as we end up with a tiger in my room I’ll be happy.

So that’s about it for a while. I have another gig at The Fringe Bar in Paddington in a few weeks. Until then, catch me on Channel 9′s Kerri-Anne Kennerly show most likely selling a mop or insurance. See you soon Fridgy.com-ers.

Done.

Hey there fridgy.com-erino’s!

Sorry for the delay in new blog updates. I know the masses have been demanding to know what’s happening in Fridgy’s life, have been flocking to www.fridgy.com like seagulls to a chip every morning, have spent more time on this website than people around the world have been watching the World Cup collectively – and you have all waited patiently so finally here it is. (And by “masses” I mean “one on my mates who told me at the races that he has noticed I’ve been lazy in updating my website”…)

Well, I’ve been pretty busy. Not with work or anything, just with my sport watching career. Seriously, the World Cup AND Wimbledon at once. I’ve barely got up off my couch, much to my girlfriends immense delight. I’ve been infomercialling the BEJESUS out of myself on Kerri-Anne and lending my voice to all sorts of stuff (including the kangaroo on the TAB Sportsbet ad that gets played about 40 times a night… that’s right, now I’ve got “Kangaroo” on my resume, right next to “Strawberry in the Subway Smoothie Ad”).

I’ve been pretty lazy on the gig front – had one on Hurstville last week and it was horrible. There were about 9 people in a room of probably 50 chairs. I managed to get a snigger from the crowd at one point which was a highlight. Certainly reminded me of why I do comedy. Who wouldn’t want to spend their Sunday night embarassing themselves in front of strangers in a deserted club very far away from my house. In all seriousness, I know that’s just the way comedy is sometimes and you just have to deal with it and move on. I have a few gigs coming up at some of my favourite venue’s (look to your right silly!)…

And that’s about it. I promise I won’t take as long to update next time – thanks for stopping by!
Done.

Ok so only one part of the title is true. Fingers crossed though. (TV producers who are visiting www.fridgy.com for the first time I will get a “CLICK HERE TO GIVE FRIDGY HIS OWN COMEDY / SPORT TV SHOW” link soon. In the meantime, just Email me.)

Man I was nervous about my spot on 1HD’s Thursday Night Live. In the last few years I’ve done some pretty nerve-wrecking stuff: some of these include hosting a live national radio show, performing my 3rd ever stand-up gig to over one thousand people, auditioning for TV shows in front of numerous producers having not learnt the script I was supposed to, I’ve even done a trivia gig in Mt Druitt.

Basically what I’m trying to say is that I’m no stranger to putting myself out of my comfort zone and jeopardising my self-esteem and in the Mt Druitt trivia case, my health. However doing my first stand-up spot on TV, with all my friends and family watching to a relatively small live audience really got to me.

I spent most of the day going over my material and staring in the fridge pondering my lack of appetite. I barely ate and because of my stupid nerves I couldn’t take advantage of the WHOLE BOX of Portuguese tarts in the backstage green room. Anyways to cut a long story short the gig went great, I was extremely relieved and my arteries paid the price for me being too nervous to eat all day due to the long and expensive stop at McDonalds on the way home from the 1HD (Channel 10) studio’s.

In other news, I went to Perth, performed 2 great gigs and pranged my hire car. Awesome. I could probably go in to more detail about this but you’re probably at work right now and if the boss catches you checking out this blog you will get busted right. So technically I’m doing you a favour by ending it here so you have less chance of getting caught. Thoughtful of me huh. Nope, just lazy.

Will update again soon – I just wanted to get the Thursday Night Live spot up online ASAP, so enjoy and feel free to comment! (It’s on the right hand side of the screen for all you battlers!) I’ll even do an arrow for you ————————->

Done.

Hey friends,

Just a really quick update as I’ve been up since the crack of 9:00am and my eyes are blurry. I only had 8 hours sleep last night as I was up watching re-runs of Frasier. I really like that show now. Niles is my favourite – the little skinny blonde nerd. Reminds me of me (except of course for the whole ‘how much money we earn’ difference… pretty sure I’d be way ahead in that department).

I digress.

Had a great gig at Paddington Fringe Bar on Monday night. As always it was packed and a great crowd. I ended up inviting an attractive girl up on to the stage and then I didn’t really know what to speak to her about. Awkward – sure, but the crowd enjoyed seeing me squirm and try to come up with witty responses to her answers. All in all, a cracking night!

Ok, so I’ll be doing my first LIVE TV comedy spot on 1HD (Channel 10′s digital 24 hour sports channel – funnily enough, it’s the channel I am the regular promo voice for!!!) The show is called Thursday Night Live and it’s a bit of a variety sports show. I’m only doing 3 minutes and I’ll be on (I think) at around 9:00pm. Very much looking forward to it! Hope you can catch it, and I’ll also try and get a copy of it to put on the website for anyone who misses it.

That’s it for now. I’m off to dream about Frasier and how one day I might be a geeky wuss living in the shadow of his older brother… hopefully in a TV show.

Thanks for stopping by guys.
Done.

Welcome to another exciting installment of “The Life Of Fridgy”. For everyone who accidentally found this site while googling the word “fridge” -

1) You’re a horrible speller.
2) Hang about, you may end up having more fun on this site than you could ever imagine. Pretty unlikely I guess but who knows.

Well I performed my first gig for a couple of weeks last week. Yes I’ve been lazy, although in a couple of weeks I will be performing comedy on national television! My first TV spot. Details of the channel / dates / times etc. to come soon so please keep checking back. Anyways, back to the gig. It was in Penrith… I know you’re thinking “wow Fridgy, that’s even more exciting than the TV spot you mentioned” but incredibly it wasn’t. I scared of dying 2 deaths that night. Both on stage and just in real life. I arrived at the pub to see a microphone in the corner of the TAB / bistro and about 20 blokes in fluro construction vests. The comedic electricity was already flowing through the room at a frantic pace. Things only looked more promising when a guy pretty much started a fight with me before I went on stage. I was sitting out the front of the pub and the dialogue went something like:

Drunk guy – “Are you a comedian?”
Fridgy – “Yes”
Drunk guy – “Yeah you look like a f**king clown”
Fridgy – “Thank-you”
Drunk guy – “What did you say to me c**t?”
Fridgy – “I said thank-you for calling me a clown. I truly appreciate the feedback”
Drunk guy – “Well I was gonna go home soon, but now I’m gonna stay and watch you clown”
Fridgy – “Perfect, thanks for supporting comedy”

And then I went on-stage. Despite all of my (hopefully) obvious sarcasm about the potential horror of the gig, it actually went ok. I did 20 minutes and went really well for about 15 minutes. Then the crowd got bored of me and seemed more interested in the bistro’s buzzers going off and whose schnitzel was ready.

Oh well as I said, it could have been much worse!

So that’s it for now… Please pop back soon for details on my TV gig and I’ll even try and post a copy of it here on the website. Unless I am horribly unfunny in which case I’ll make up some excuse about not being able to get a copy of it.

Done.
